Innocent murmurs
A murmur is an “extra” sound that is heard when a physician listens to the heart sounds. Fortunately, many murmurs are “innocent”, meaning they are not the result of a heart defect or other heart abnormality. Sometimes normal blood flow will create an innocent murmur. Innocent murmurs are not associated with any heart problems and will not turn into a heart problem in the future. No cardiology follow-up is necessary unless there are new exam findings or new symptoms that are concerning.
