Your Child’s Visit

We know an evaluation can be an intense experience for everybody. That’s why your child’s well-being is at the front of our mind when your family comes to see us at the office.

Rest assured that built in to delivering the highest level of medical care for your little ones, we are committed to making your visit as comfortable, welcoming, playful, and drama-free as it can be. Everything we do here is centered around that perspective.

So here’s what you can expect:

Pediatric cardiology evaluations are complex, and your first visit will likely run about an hour to an hour and a half; silver lining, follow-ups are typically significantly shorter. We strive to keep your wait time as short as possible. We are parents first, and we know your day is full.

On this initial visit, your child will have a comprehensive history and physical examination. For many patients, a complete echocardiogram (heart ultrasound) and ECG will be done. Mom & Dad should know these are totally painless tests. However we have done our best to address the pain of boredom with all the regular doctor’s office tricks - toys, books, TV, Netflix, the works - to create an opportunity for kids to actually enjoy their visit. Occasionally Dr. Stamps will deem further tests necessary, but those will usually be done outside of this visit.

Your family will then have a thorough discussion with Dr. Stamps about the results of the testing, your child’s diagnosis, and the plan going forward. There will be time to address all your questions, get the answers that you can, and arrange any follow-up if needed. There are often several options regarding the best treatment course for patients, and yes, sometimes they may involve surgical intervention. If we determine that your child needs any kind of procedure, we promise to make that happen as seamlessly as possible. Our experience and relationships - not just in the area but around the country - ensure our patients are referred to the absolute best for what they need.

Stop us if you’ve heard this from a doctor’s office before, but we do ask that you arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your appointment time to complete any paperwork that is needed. This also helps ensure that patients are seen promptly and on time.
